Office Hours
A very well-attended Better on Bikes Office Hours. Leo, Kathy, Barbara, Cheryl, Dani, Monica, Terry, Ginger, JoAnne, Stacy, Jodi:
We went to a 7-mile ride to San Juan Rd and Airport Rd. For everyone who lives in N Natomas on the east side of I-5, this intersection is the “gateway” to Discovery Park, Old Sac, downtown, Fisherman’s Lake Parkway, the airport ride, etc. Coming back, riding north on E Commerce, about to cross Del Paso Rd, twelve cyclists in perfect formation take the lane:
Looking good, I must say. Six of us rode over for Office Hours from Westshore, so our total was 20 miles.
Better on Bikes 4
Tonight was the fourth class on Zoom.

My bedroom clock is sitting on the ironing board. I have time targets for presenting the material. In exactly 4 minutes, at 5:25, I logged into the Zoom class and Lesson 3 began …
Office Hours
Cindy and I planned to ride over to Inderkum High School for Office Hours and meet other Better on Bikes II participants. There are more people from the east side of I-5 so this time, the parking lot at Inderkum HS was a better choice. However, I got a flat tire about a mile from home. We came up with a quick plan: Cindy would ride back and get my vehicle with bike rack. As she rode away, here came Kathy who has changed a few flat tires in her lifetime. She used to be a bike racer. She was fast. In fact, her goal was to have it fixed and the bike put back together before Cindy got back. As it turned out, the tire never would hold air. Time for a new tube. Only later, was the nail in the tire discovered – should have checked for that.
We got to Office Hours on time and had a great session with Cindy, Kathy, Theresa, Ginger, and Terry. And Cindy loaned me her ebike for the short ride we did.

Better on Bikes II
The second round of classes started last Tuesday with a Zoom class in the early evening.
On Sunday, we met for “Office Hours” at Inderkum High School. Cindy, Maria, Theresa, JoAnne, and Ginger:
Perfect left turn!
The following sequence of pictures is a beautiful demonstration of a perfect left turn by 6 cyclists at a controlled intersection. They are lined up two-abreast taking up the entire lane. Everyone is in power pedal position, eyes on the traffic light and aware of traffic conditions around them.
As they move through the intersection, they begin merging to the right.
And smoothly end up in the bike lane. Big thanks to Pat, Cindy, Karen, Leo, Cheryl, Jonathan, and
the photographer (who pedaled one-handed and took cell phone pictures with the other – whew). Sooo proud of these Better on Bikes bicyclists! These pictures will definitely show up in the next round of Better on Bikes classes beginning in mid-February.
University Town Loop
From Old Sac,
we took H St then M St to Sac State. At the alumni center in front of a sculpture called Brazen: (standing) Kathy, Dani, Cheryl, (seated) Barbara, Jonathan.
We crossed the Guy West Bridge
turned left and rode the American River Parkway back. 30 miles! And we didn’t get rained on. Based on my constant viewing of Doppler radar on my weather app, I was certain that would happen. Happy to be wrong! Jonathan shared the following picture:
Midtown Farmer Market
We left at 10 am and rode into Midtown to 20th St between J & K.
Lots of people and ALL wearing masks. Amal went shopping while Jonathan, Cheryl and I watched the bikes.
This large group came by going about twice the speed we generally ride. We were on the bike trail, they were on the Garden Highway near I-5.
Amal’s fresh veggies got home safely. 20 miles today!
