Wellness Fair

John F Kennedy High School Wellness Fair on Monday morning. Many tents set up on the track.

Pierson and I were promoting May is Bike Month. 1700 students in two one-hour batches. We actually got a lot of people to sign up. Pierson is an excellent “barker”.

The only downside was being located right in front of the – loud – DJ.

Half birthday

A few weeks ago, in the car after picking up the boys after school, Avery says, “Grandma, there’s a really special day coming up on April 21.” Really? What is it? “It’s only going to happen once in our lifetimes. I will be 12 1/2.” Yes, that’s very special and … worthy of a gift? And, what do you know, he had something in mind.

Bike Doc

at Four Seasons Westshore. A short walk up the street to my job site at reception. Two students from Inderkum HS Bike Tech program came to volunteer. Paul also volunteered and so helpful since I was a bit hampered.

Thursday

Charlie follows me everywhere and plops down as close as he can get. Keeping a watchful eye on me.

After dropping off Carson at his Little League game, I drove to City Hall for this month’s Active Transportation Commission meeting.

Monday – Wednesday

Last Friday, I led the first day of street rides for Project Ride Smart at Regency Park Elementary. I had the Blue group – excellent cyclists, ready to learn more on our rides. Every one of the four classes was great and I had no sweep and a couple of groups with 9 students. I forgot to take pictures, but no problem, I would be back on Monday and Tuesday.

However, on Monday morning, as we were getting all the bikes out of the classroom where they were stored, I tripped on a kickstand and fell. HARD on my left knee. Not good. The PRS team and school personnel moved into action. Cheryl picked up me and my bike and took “us” home. I was able to drive myself to a Kaiser urgent care. Whew! Nothing broken. Two days of rest and I would be just fine (really?). This was me Monday through Wednesday doing RICE: rest, ice, compression, elevate.

Thursday. Nope, I am not 100%. In fact, I need two more weeks of RICE. Sigh.

Bike Around the Buttes

A steady rain all morning. 600 riders signed up, 167 showed up. A choice of routes – how long do you want your misery to last?

Brenda, Lori, and Laurie rode the 20-mile route:

BarbaraL rode the 40-mile route, thankful for hot water at a rest stop from friendly volunteers.

I was supposed to ride, but the predicted weather conditions convinced me otherwise. I made the correct decision.

Happy Birthday x 2

Sophia #15 and Lenin #47. Pre-dinner entertainment for Grandma who arrived early.

Progress in the backyard.

Banana cream pie and slices of chocolate pie from Frank Fat’s.

The race to blow out the candles regardless of whose birthday it is. A family tradition.
