I didn’t work this week, so I had plenty of time to make a costume for Sophia to wear on a field trip. I still need to make the bonnet, but the dress is finished!

Delivery
Very early Friday morning, material for the backyard was delivered. Flagstone, 2 piles of AB (aggregate base), and 1 pile of sand.
On Saturday morning Justin came over to move it into the backyard.
It was FOUR times the work he expected it to be! Thank you, dear son!!

I did help move the flagstone. 4000 pounds stacked on the patio! Whew!

Painting project
I was so happy when Justin said I could paint the walnut trees. In my old parking space, Justin’s latest tractor project. It looked like it needed a lot of work but there were some bright red parts. It started right up!
My first painting memory, in my early teens, was when I really really wanted to paint the chicken house windows for my dad. I begged him to do it, he finally relented. He set me up and I painted away. His evaluation, “Arlete, you were supposed to put most of the paint on the wood, not the glass.”
56 years later, Justin mixing my first batch of half water-half paint:
Demonstrating how to do the job:
So after the first tree, I had to know if I was being too sloppy (more paint on the ground vs paint on the tree?). Justin’s answer, “You’re not being sloppy enough.” OMG – thank you!

Capitola
Early Friday afternoon, I drove to Capitola to visit Sheryl and Pat again. We went to happy hour at Johnny’s Harborside restaurant in the late afternoon.
On Saturday morning, Sheryl and I went for a long walk. There are many unique things to look at in people’s yards. Cactus garden in meat grinders:

Note the starfish on the wall. Many homes in Capitola have these starfish, all created by local artist Jerry Clarke:

By this point in our walk, I had decided I needed one of those starfish. The only way you can buy one is to knock on Jerry’s door, hoping he’ll be home.
And he was home! So friendly and welcoming. “Come on in,” he said.
Project Ride Smart
The second and final week at Witter Ranch. ABCQuick Check:
Blacktop drills. I’m about to ride down the lane to demonstrate the next drill while Elle and Deanna describe what students are expected to do.
The community bike rides were Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I always take the Red group.

Early Friday morning fire drill. It was amazing how quiet everyone was.
Today was more of a fun day on bicycles. The “Triple Rings of Fire” -a figure 8 with an extra loop:
The “Slow Race” -the slowest person without touching a foot to the ground was the winner:
