Across the Golden Gate

The last time I did this ride was Memorial Day weekend 2022 with the Heritage Park bike group and Becky (now retired from Jibe) and Charlie (Becky’s husband and fellow LCI). The crowds of people along the waterfront, on the bridge, in the small cute towns made the ride challenging. This time, we tried doing the ride on a weekday. The trade-off was fewer people to dodge, but 5.5 hours of driving with commuters to and from the Larkspur Ferry Terminal. On a weekend, the roundtrip drive can be half that.

Besides all that, today’s ride was fantastic. Gina came to my house from Folsom and I drove.

Elaine and Terri in the foreground. Because e-bikes are so heavy and can’t be lifted into a vertical position, they are lined up tightly in a wide corner in the stern.

Leaving the wharf area:

The view after the first climb:

At Fort Point, just before crossing the Golden Gate:

Another difference from a weekend ride: we had to ride on the east side of the bridge with pedestrians. We also saw a police officer give two cyclists speeding tickets for riding faster that 15 mph.

Descending into Sausalito where we had lunch at Venice Gourmet Delicatessen.

On the way to Tiburon, an art installation.

What a fun group to ride with. Gina, Elaine, Charlie, Cindy, Cheryl, Brenda, Terri.

Back to our starting at Larkspur Ferry Terminal. 32 miles! I’m already looking forward to doing this again. On a weekend.
