Blue Ridge Winnie’s April Campout

There are 12 rigs here at Outlander’s River Camp, all from an RV group called Blue Ridge Winnie’s.

Billie has been a member for over a year, then winter and the pandemic meant many canceled events. This is Billie’s fifth campout with this group since last August so she’s made some good friends and she doesn’t know when she will see them again. Tonight was a potluck – Italian food.

Cooter’s

This afternoon we went up the road to Cooter’s to listen to some country music. Remember Cooter from the Dukes of Hazzard?

Ben Lewis played the part of Cooter Davenport in the Dukes of Hazzard, a popular television show that ran from 1979-1985. Justin is a fan, he probably watched it from ages 4-10. Ben Lewis was also in the US House of Representatives from 1989-1993. He will be 80 years old in August.

The music was really good. Every band member was great. Cooter came out for about an hour, sang and told stories.

Hawksbill Greenway

A 2-mile trail that makes for a very good 4-mile walk or a very short bike ride. We started in the middle and walked each direction. Ahead is Main St in Luray:

Quite a few trout fishermen. The creek is stocked. In fact, tomorrow is the Youth Trout Fishing Derby.

On the other side of Main St, the path ended in a loop around a cow pasture.

WaCo blog post

I’ve been receiving the Washington Commons Co-housing newsletter since my first presentation for them at the end of January. Then I did a tour of W Sacramento, with Barbara and Cheryl as sweeps, on March 20. Here is a link to a blog post about that event:

W and OD Bike Trail

Today we got up early to ride part of the the Washington and Old Dominion Bike Trail.

We started in Purcellville, one end of a 45-mile trail that goes to Washington DC.

Lime kilns:

Our greatest hazard of the day!

We rode out to about Mile Marker 30 and turned around. We stopped for lunch in Leesburg at ..

We parked our bikes in the back, ordered here ..

and split a Memphis Mushroom Biscuit and White Bean Salad:

From the top down: onion ring, top half of a cat’s head biscuit + sauce, onion ring, bbq’d lion’s head mushroom, apple, bottom half cat’s head biscuit. Yes, it was absolutely delicious!

29 miles. What a great day.

Hello Luray

The final early morning hours. Goodbye house. Hello adventure. Billie’s sister Judy said, “Thelma and [Arlete] Louise! Look out America!”

We drove to Luray VA, set up the RV for the first time together and, by late afternoon, sat outside and relaxed. Smile.

Happy Easter

Today was the day, Billie moved completely out of her house.

Billie’s daughter Christie and her husband Jerry helped move the last big things into storage – a 3D jigsaw filled to the brim.

Bilie’s youngest grandson Dominic loves to have his picture taken.

Later, Nanny taught him how to use the hose to do a rinse and how to wash the wheels.

Our new home. Her name is Sallie.

Those of you who know how much I love to wash my own vehicle will appreciate the fact that I cleaned the tow vehicle (named Versie) inside and out all by myself. Even Nanny said I did a good job.
