From the Sewing Cave: two sets of four open-wide zippered pouches from a collection of fabrics called Pie Making Day by Brenda Ratliff.
There were 11 different fabrics in the collection.
Once nested, they were reduced to this.

Halloween costume #1
Delivered! Avery wanted to be a specific dinosaur – a carnotaurus.
But a blue one. He picked out the fabric himself, making sure it was the right shade of blue. Growling fiercely:
Chasing his tail:
Dino down. A word about all those spikes: they are about 3 inches long, stuffed with fiberfill, and hand-sown on.
Velo Ball
Almost like going to the high school prom, I had to stop at Thais’ to have my picture taken. Those orange palazzo pants (from the Sewing Cave) were so comfortable.
The Velo Ball was at the California State Railroad Museum in Old Sacramento.
Jim Brown, Executive Director of Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates (SABA):
Waving is Board Member Sue Teranishi:
L-R: LCI Dan Allison, LCI Doug Williams and wife Ann, Matt and Abbey Stumpf – Abbey is Communications and Program Coordinator for North Natomas Transportation Management Association (NNTMA). NNTMA funds Project Ride Smart.
The next picture didn’t turn out well, but I have to include it. This is the lady to bid on and won one of the three t-shirts I donated for the silent auction. I hope she enjoys wearing it!

Vogue 8938 is still the pattern I sew the most often. In August, I finished two more and sent them to Billie.
Then I spotted the perfect periwinkle color in a voile to use with last year’s Breathe Bike Trek t-shirt.
A board member for SABA asked me to make t-shirts for this year’s Velo Ball as a raffle item. I decided to make three of them in small, medium, and large sizes.

Stay-at-home day
It’s been a long time since I had a day when I didn’t have to go ANYwhere! Ahhh. Time for a good long walk – early in the day of course, by 10 am it’s just too hot. Justin’s neighbor planted sunflowers along his property.
This cropduster flew UNDER the power lines to get the job done:
Justin’s walnut trees are doing quite well:
There was also time to dig out a very old pattern (maybe from a 1970s Woman’s Day magazine?) and make my own sunflower:

Seven valances for Billie’s sunroom in Roanoke. Despite in-store and online searches, the best fabric turned out to be sheets from Target.

I’ve been trying not to start new sewing projects for myself but rather work on unfinished projects. This quilt is only two years old and finally finished!

This now-finished wall hanging was started about 20 years old!

In between everything else, I’ve managed to complete a few projects. A handbag/backpack for Thais’ birthday on the 17th

using Carolyn Friedlander’s Architextures and Botanics fabrics.

A few zippered pouches from the scraps.

And a baby quilt for Mike (Dick’s son) and Nicole in Colorado who are expecting their first baby in June. The center panel is Alexander Henry’s ABC With Me. Thais helped pick out the coordinating fabrics, I came up with the quilt design.

A few of you have commented that you like seeing what’s been created in the Sewing Cave. This is a very large beach bag for Pat in Lihue Hawaii. She likes black and white, we picked out 12 different black/white fabrics and the lining when I was there last January dealing with the boat disaster.
An embroidered pocket on the inside.

A bigger pocket on the other side and an easy snap for keys.

From the scraps a few zippered pouches. Two of them will go inside Pat’s beach bag as a bonus.

And a couple of t-shirts and few pair of capris for me for the warmer weather.

The pillowcases and 20″ pillow are done and ready to send to Billie in Virginia!

Using more of the leftover Amy Butler scraps, I made Kylie’s doll quilt #3, just 14×24 inches. Kylie is Adrienne’s granddaughter.

When I showed Justin these finished pieces, he said now I had to start thinking about what to sew next. I told him it was far worse than that. I already have the next two projects started and six more waiting in a drawer. And that doesn’t include the the “wanna-do” projects rolling around in my head.
