Meetings

Tuesday: Personnel and Public Employees Committee. Five City of Sacramento commissions presented their 2024 annual reports. As Chair of the Active Transportation Commission, I presented our report.

Thursday: County of Sacramento Bicycle Advisory Committee aka SacBAC. I’ve been on this committee for two years and was surprised to learn I’m actually third in seniority of the seven members. This meant I was in line to be Vice Chair and was elected to do that.

County and City meetings

On Wednesday evening, the County of Sacramento held a Boards, Commission, Committees & Councils Appreciation Training in the Board Chambers downtown. There are 88 of these in the County – I’m on SacBAC (Bicycle Advisory Committee). It was one of the better Brown Act trainings I’ve been to.

On Thursday evening, I was at the Active Transportation Commission meeting for the City of Sacramento. Hurray, we finalized and voted on our Annual Report one month before it was due.

Back to routines

Feeling better this week, I was able to get back to some regular activities. Working for Love to Ride to promote Biketober for a couple of hours/day. SABA staff meeting on Tuesday morning. On Wednesday, ride leaders from Jibe’s Navigate Natomas got together to see where community bike rides could go from here.

Thursday evening, Sacramento County Bicycle Advisory Committee meeting.

Saturday, Jibe’s Electric Ride and Drive Expo at N Natomas Regional Park.

SacBAC

Sacramento County Bicycle Advisory Committee. Tonight’s meeting included a “field trip” to the Sacramento County Traffic Control Center – monitored here are 500 traffic lights plus 90 in Rancho Cordova.

Doug Maas, Senior Civil Engineer, explained signalization for bicycles at intersections, ongoing upgrades, the latest technology for detecting bicycles and how it’s tested. Very interesting!

Encouraging everyone to do a good job:

Bike-related meetings

Wednesday: Sacramento County Bicycle Advisory Committee

The proposed bicycle infrastructure for a new development just south from where I live. We ride Garden Highway frequently.

Thursday evening: Active Transportation Commission at City Hall.

SacBAC

After applying in November and interviewing in early December, I found out last week that I was appointed to the Sacramento County Bicycle Advisory Committee. Tonight was my first meeting, by Zoom of course.

I’m going to enjoy knowing what’s going on bicycle-wise in the county and being able to have some input. One interesting fact regarding accomplishments by the Sac County in 2021 was 17 miles of bicycle lane and intersection improvements. One of those areas was our nearby Metro Air Parkway which we use at least once/week to cross I-5 when we ride around the airport.
