Stonegate Bike Club

Back to last Wednesday. There was another bike club at Bridgeway Island Elementary in West Sacramento. Again, we didn’t know if anyone would show up. We got 6 kids at Stonegate. How many would show up here? Uhhh .. 25. And it was raining buckets! We met in a PE classroom and I winged it. Taking pictures? Maybe next time.

Today was Week 2 at Stonegate. This is a fun group. Smaller class size = get more done!

Stonegate Bike Club

This week, two bike clubs in West Sacramento began. On Tuesdays, Stonegate. This is a beautiful new school. Rain threatened but didn’t materialize, but it was cold and windy.
Until today, we weren’t sure if this bike club would happen. Would kids show up? Yes, four students!

Velo Ball

Almost like going to the high school prom, I had to stop at Thais’ to have my picture taken. Those orange palazzo pants (from the Sewing Cave) were so comfortable.dsc03763The Velo Ball was at the California State Railroad Museum in Old Sacramento.dsc03765dsc03774Jim Brown, Executive Director of Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates (SABA):dsc03769Waving is Board Member Sue Teranishi:dsc03773L-R: LCI Dan Allison, LCI Doug Williams and wife Ann, Matt and Abbey Stumpf – Abbey is Communications and Program Coordinator for North Natomas Transportation Management Association (NNTMA). I hope she enjoys wearing it!dsc03784

Midtown Farmers Market

I worked the SABA Bike Valet with Rebecca again.DSC01512We didn’t park many bikes, but we had a good visit.DSC01513I have found a few vendors I look forward to visiting each time – one selling the best avocados, another with unique jewelry (I feel a purchase coming on). DSC01514DSC01515Afterwards, I met a friend at Old Soul to talk about doing some safety clinics for Bike Hikers, a local social bicycling club.DSC01516

MIBM at Bella Bru

Businesses are celebrating May is Bike Month by offering incentives if you ride a bike. This morning, SABA offered free Bike Valet service at Bella Bru in North Natomas and gave each bicycle rider a free pastry or espresso drink. DSC01475DSC01474I worked with Aaron and Victor.DSC01473

Shamrock’n 5K

I volunteered this morning for SABA at the Bike Valet for the annual Shamrock’n 5K. The half-marathon is tomorrow. The start/finish was at Raley Field.DSC00447
7:30 am start time, cold and windy, and I didn’t dress warmly enough.DSC00452
We only parked 12 bikes.DSC00455
The start:DSC00449
15 minutes later, the first runner turned the final corner for the finish line. At this point I was thinking I wouldn’t be cold that much longer, but it took the slowest in the field well over an hour to complete the 5K. DSC00456Then there was a half hour break before the kid’s race around the block began.DSC00459
After helping to dismantle the bike parking apparatus, I got in my car and turned on the heated seat! Ahhhh.

Who knew there were so many companies, both large and small, plus many individuals who make bicycles by hand.DSC00153

And finally, a 9.9 pound bicycle. You could have one just like it for a mere $13,000.
