West Sacramento Earth Day

Cheryl and I rode to Bryte Park on Sunday morning. We were so happy to find bike valet parking and Yoshi was happy to park the first two bikes of the day.

Diana and Rob from SABA:

Alice and Tim from SABA promoting May is Bike Month.

We had a great lunch from Chando’s food truck and rode home. A great day for a bike ride.

SABA Social ride

Brenda, BarbaraL and I rode in early Sunday morning to meet at Midtown Trek for SABA’s social ride.

Pierson was the ride leader:

Sonya’s Scout troop did an ABCQuick Check presentation – they did a great job:

A stop at the Bicycle Kitchen – one of the most generous and worthwhile bicycle-related businesses in Sacramento. Totally supported by volunteers, a great source for diy repairs, inexpensive used parts, and used bicycles.

Great ride along the ARBT to Watt Avenue where we crossed the American River.

There is another excellent paved trail on the other side going back toward Sac State.

The route continued along Elvas Ave, through McKinley Village to Sutter’s Landing Park. When we got to C & 20th Streets, the three of us peeled off, took the Sacramento Northern Bike Trail to the ARBT to Discovery Park and home. Whew – about 40 miles today.

Ride to Sutter’s Landing Park

Huge thanks to Cheryl, Laura, Elaine, and Brenda who rode with me this morning to Sutter’s Landing. The CSUS Renaissance Society has been taking some online seminars with SABA’s mode-shift team, Rob and Hillary, about e-bikes. Today everyone met in person at Sutter’s Landing Park.

Wearing the hoodie, Deb Banks .. then Rob, Hillary, and Anne Geraghty:

The five of us who rode in all have e-bikes and came to provide user feedback to those thinking about buying an e-bike. There were also 3 different e-bikes from SABA’s mode shift program available to test rides. Laura’s (gray jacket) e-bike has a belt drive, which replaces the usual chain. Rob is explaining the difference and advantages.

Slow Down Sacramento

We planned to ride to Tahoe Park Elementary but the threat of rain caused us to drive instead. Also, currently, you can’t ride through Discovery Park due to flooding, which would have meant “taking the lane” on high-speed Hwy 160 to get across the river.

Brenda came to advocate with me!

Organizer of the event, Isaac Gonzalez:

We learned about Tactical Urbanism and worked on solutions to troublesome intersections in the area of the City of Sacramento that we lived in. We left with many low-cost easily-implemented tools to use for advocacy in the future. Gathering for a group photo:

It’s hard to get people to go and do these advocacy things with me .. so as a reward we treat ourselves to a stop at Chevy’s on the River on the way home. Cheers! And a BIG thank-you to Brenda.

Banners are up!

Last year, on November 28, Brenda, BarbaraL and I met a photographer at N Natomas Regional Park for a photo shoot. This was part of the N Natomas Joy project created by Jibe and Councilmember Lisa Kaplan. I received word yesterday that the banners have been installed! I went for a bike ride today to see them. There were 40 submissions. Half of the banners are along N Park Dr, the section that borders the N Natomas Regional Park. Most of the banners are on the park side.

The reverse side:

The rest of the banners are on Natomas Central Dr. These are less elongated.

At Gozo Island Ave, a few familiar faces:
