A steady rain all morning. 600 riders signed up, 167 showed up. A choice of routes – how long do you want your misery to last?

Brenda, Lori, and Laurie rode the 20-mile route:

BarbaraL rode the 40-mile route, thankful for hot water at a rest stop from friendly volunteers.

I was supposed to ride, but the predicted weather conditions convinced me otherwise. I made the correct decision.

Practicing gliding:

This person actually came in on a small e-bike WITH a throttle (at far left in above picture) so she had great balance, but was dependent on the throttle. She wanted to learn how to get going using “power pedal” – here, she put her left foot on the pedal, raised it to the 10 o’clock position, eyes on the horizon, and pushed off. Success.

Our team: Christy, Lennore, Kathy:

Up early for a one-hour drive to Howard Park in Ione for Party Pardee, an annual bike ride organized by Bike Hikers.

The 65-mile group had a start time of 7:30. My group, riding the 26-mile route, left at 8:30.

Rest stop #1.

In the distance, Lake Camanche.

Rest stop #2. Except there wasn’t a second rest stop on the 26-mile route. Oops, I missed a turn. If I continued, I would end up riding 65 miles.

Nope. 31 miles – that was enough. I got a ride back to the start with the sag support guys. The other passenger in the back seat with me lost a cleat on one shoe, her ride was over also.

The after-ride meal.

I walked with my plate until I found … Becky! We haven’t seen each other in years. So fun to catch up.

A stroll through the vendors including Gina – Gadget Girl Goods.

A live band.

Great event! Thank you Bike Hikers.
