The Yellow group – my favorite color – and a great group of kids each and every time.

Diana was a fantastic Sweep. An extra layer of safety.

Laurie rode Sweep for the last two classes.

at H Allen Hight Elementary, about 3 miles from my house, a 20-minute ride. Arrival time = 7:20. A tad early for this retired person. I was there for the last three days, the street rides, when four LCIs are needed.

Five 5th grade classes – on the second floor of the building, a bit of stair-climbing ahead.

Always ABCQuick Check before going for a ride. Thank you Diana, who volunteered to ride sweep for my Yellow group.

Brenda, BarbaraL and I rode in early Sunday morning to meet at Midtown Trek for SABA’s social ride.

Pierson was the ride leader:

Sonya’s Scout troop did an ABCQuick Check presentation – they did a great job:

A stop at the Bicycle Kitchen – one of the most generous and worthwhile bicycle-related businesses in Sacramento. Totally supported by volunteers, a great source for diy repairs, inexpensive used parts, and used bicycles.

Great ride along the ARBT to Watt Avenue where we crossed the American River.

There is another excellent paved trail on the other side going back toward Sac State.

The route continued along Elvas Ave, through McKinley Village to Sutter’s Landing Park. When we got to C & 20th Streets, the three of us peeled off, took the Sacramento Northern Bike Trail to the ARBT to Discovery Park and home. Whew – about 40 miles today.
For this meeting, two SABA mechanics came out to Two Rivers Elementary to service the bikes of the kids in the group and their families. Because it was raining we actually met in a nearby garage. For the first time, the work stand on my bike rack was used – so much easier to work on elevated bikes.

Huge thanks to mechanics Ken (above) and Dennis (below):

Time for a test ride:

The retired teacher in me (I think) wanted to see this exhibit at

Benton started by making a sketch on an index card, then he folded and cut until a letter or number emerged. The final works were eventually sculpted in steel and painted in bright colors.

Then I discovered … Messages by Joyce J Scott, the “Queen of Beadwork.” Many necklaces on display

sculptures and this Moss Teapot with six human figures.

Huge thanks to Cheryl, Laura, Elaine, and Brenda who rode with me this morning to Sutter’s Landing. The CSUS Renaissance Society has been taking some online seminars with SABA’s mode-shift team, Rob and Hillary, about e-bikes. Today everyone met in person at Sutter’s Landing Park.

Wearing the hoodie, Deb Banks .. then Rob, Hillary, and Anne Geraghty:

The five of us who rode in all have e-bikes and came to provide user feedback to those thinking about buying an e-bike. There were also 3 different e-bikes from SABA’s mode shift program available to test rides. Laura’s (gray jacket) e-bike has a belt drive, which replaces the usual chain. Rob is explaining the difference and advantages.

I drove to Yuba City late in the afternoon for the monthly Yuba Sutter Chamber of Commerce get-together called Wine’d Down to promote May is Bike Month. We met at

We migrated to the patio to visit for a while.

One owner/manager took a video while the other gave a short presentation about the history of the restaurant and future plans. In profile at far right is Janell Willis, Executive Director of the Chamber.
