Thursday at Merrilyn’s

On Wednesday. We were on the same wavelength: two shrimp appetizers. Perfectly roasted shrimp with an enhanced cocktail sauce and shrimp/black bean/avocado salsa with Scoops.

Postscript: I had to go at the last minute to get a Serrano or jalapeño pepper from the grocery store. The selection was terrible. I got the last two tiny Serranos and went to the register .. without the 4-digit code you need to check out. I explained my problem and the clerk said, “Oh, you can have those.” Quite reasonable I would say:

Games

I picked up Avery and Carson after their sports camps at Jesuit. We pick up something for lunch, went home, and each of us settled into individual activities. I was counting on this time so I could continue to read the Staff Report – a total of 387 pages! – for tonight’s Active Transportation Commission meeting. Then Carson asked, “Grandma, can we play a board game?” Not a difficult decision. First game:

Then a new one for me, Catan. Carson won.

And a bit more time to keep reading the Staff Report. I left in time to get to City Hall by 5:00, the meeting started at 5:30.

Press Conference

In the past six months, there have been three bicyclist or pedestrian fatalities in N Natomas. The most recent was a 63-year-old man at the corner of Banfield and Club Center.

Councilmember Lisa Kaplan organized this morning’s press conference. Below: the extended family of the victim, me, Councilmember Lisa Kaplan, Councilmember Eric Guerra, Slow Down Sacramento founder and Vice Chair of the Active Transportation Commission. In the background ATC Commissioner Don Gibson, SABA Executive Director Deb Banks, Jibe’s Mellissa Meng.

I spoke as Chair of the Active Transportation Commission.

My 2-minute contribution ended up on the cutting room floor for the local evening news, although a couple of friends spotted me in the background.

Ride along

I drove to Lake Wildwood in time for lunch. In the early evening, Maria had Ladies Tuesday Night Match Play League.

I went along for the ride.

Deer and turkeys were everywhere, quite comfortable hanging out on the golf course.

Maria and Penelope won today’s match.

More needlework therapy as I worked on the final report for Love to Ride.

Today I finished BOTH! Report submitted to Chelsea (in London btw) and t-shirt about to be worn.

“ride” was the solution because the wavy lines were not going to match up.

Summer activities w postscript

Summer is the time for sports camps and a new interest for Avery. He is taking piano lessons.

This was also the day my 7-year-old grandson boosted my ego. At noon, I picked up Carson and Zane from basketball camp at Jesuit. As we walked to the car, I heard Carson say, “My grandma rode like 40 miles .. (no response from Zane) .. Grandma, are you like the best bicycle rider in California?” … pause while I think of something clever to say …

“In my age group, yes.” No response from anyone. LOL!!

Freeport Bar and Grill

A long ride today with a lunch stop in the middle.

After 18 miles, Freeport Bar and Grill. Aris, me, Brenda, Lori, BarbaraB:

After lunch, we crossed the bridge and rode S River Rd to W Sacramento, across the Tower Bridge then the Jibboom Bridge
