CBET at Del Paso
Another school program has come to an end. At Del Paso, we were lucky to have four countries represented: Mexico, Panama, Laos, and Pakistan. I learned that when you sneeze three times in Panama, the words to call out are: “Salud!”/Health, “Dinero!”/Money, “Amor!”/Love. A blonde person in Spanish is “rubia”, in Hmong it’s “blauhaus” (I guessed at the phonetic spelling).

Receiving gifts at the end of a job is always so unexpected and sweet. Maria cross-stitched the picture, the handbag from Deisy. The flowers were from the LGA Bike Club.

LGA Bike Club final meeting
As the school year neared its end, we met for a final time and instead of conducting any business, we hopped on our bikes and rode the shortest distance to Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream.

L-R: LaTraye (eating TWO triple-scoops in waffle cones!), Julian, Adam, Jack.

The “sword” Jack is wielding is actually a skateboard and LaTraye’s ice cream is almost gone. Youthful ice cream appetite!

Coaching the LGA Bike Club was so much fun this year. I can’t wait to do it again next year. WALKSacramento is looking for ways to expand bicycle education into middle and high schools. I think our club is the only one of its kind in the region and was deemed a huge success this year. Working for and with Monika and Miha at WALKSacramento has been a dream, they were supportive and encouraging and gave me a lot of creative freedom. Megan McManus, the club advisor, was equally supportive and encouraging and I compliment her on all the volunteer hours she put in to host every club meeting and to go on every Saturday ride.
Mother’s Day
Farm & Tractor Days – Saturday
I was in charge of vendor registrations. It was fun getting to know local entrpreneurs, especially when there was a family connection. This is Jim Perryman’s wife Sarah and oldest son Adrian.
The Rio Linda Chicken (Mike Grandinetti) with Mary Harris, part of the organizing team for the Country Faire in September.
Wagon rides.
Eva Fox did great face painting.
This project is in its first phase, but exciting I think. The quilt squares are painted and represent the organization particpating. They will appear on a tourist’s map to direct visitors around our community.
Eva Fox’s husband tied balloons. Odin’s Viking helmet.
More face painting by Eva.

I went up in the lift to take pictures of the tractor parade
and the rest of the venue.
Best award from Three Rivers Laser in Pleasant Grove.
Farm & Tractor Days – Friday
Lots of school kids come on this day. They walked from Orchard
and Rio Linda Prepatory Academy.

Free crafts were provided by Westside Charter School

and Heritage Peak Charter School.

Green Acres 4-H brought animals. This boy was lifted from his wheelchair so he could touch the animals.

Doug came to help today (Big thanks!) and got to see his kindergarten teacher, Jeanne Regello.

Big treat provided by RLEHS: free sno-cones for everyone. Thankfully members of Rio Linda High School FFA came to help out, not just here but all over. There were about 40 of them and they were all put to good use.

The FFA advisor with Ed Valencia, another long-time community volunteer.

Touring inside the Dry Creek Ranch House.

Getting ready
SRTS in SJUSD
Dan Allison runs the Safe Routes to School program in San Juan Unified School District.

In this program, pedestrian safety is taught at grades 1-3, bicycle safety at grades 4-6.

I worked with Doug, an LCI friend, on this day. On other days, I taught pedestrian safety with Dan or Elle.

I worked 5 days either at Greer School or Whitney School. One day, a teacher came up to me to see if I remembered her. Yes! Sheena Guy Smith from Westside and Westside Charter School. Now a second grade teacher at Whitney.

My apologies
Dear Faithful Readers,
I am going to try to do better. Work has slowed for the summer season. It’s time to reweave a few loose threads. Thanks for hanging in there and coming back to check on me every once in a while.
It’s actually June 12, this post is back-dated to signal a change is ahead … hopefully.
