Project Ride Smart
Smart Cycling – part 1
Gina taught a 3-hour Smart Cycling class this evening at the Jibe office. Some of the attendees are on a path to become a League Cycling Instructor. Some are ride leaders for Jibe’s Navigate Natomas rides. It’s been more than 11 years since I took this class so this refresher was good. Plus, Gina and I will be assessing bike handling drills and street riding skills next Saturday for second part of the class.
Learn to Ride
Kathy and I drove to a parking structure at UCD Med Center this morning to assist Becky with a Learn to Ride class.
Michelina, a quick study, was soon ready to weave between cones.
Fun morning.
Off-road biking
Dani and I went for a ride today. So much fun. Near the end of the 30-mile ride, Dani chose a short non-paved trail. I followed, I have wide tires. Then I told her about a non-paved trail along a canal that she might enjoy and off we went. Except at the exit at Del Paso Rd, there was a gate with a narrow opening. My bike was easy. Dani’s trike was another story. We ended up turning the trike on its side and lifting it through, angling to allow for the mirrors first, then the headrest. Whew! We did it.
Volleyball
Spring sports at St Ignatius: boys’ volleyball. Avery is serving, Lenin is line judge.

LCI training
Thank you Gina for inviting me up to a Folsom Park to review the bicycling drills for an upcoming LCI training. I arrived early, but Gina was already there and had set up a course.

Jibe ride to Farmers Market
I left at 8 am to meet seven people from the American River Bike Patrol near the northern end of Jackrabbit Trail. The Bike Patrol is looking ahead to also patrol Jackrabbit. Today was their introduction.
We rode to the Jibe office where the official ride began. Laurie was the lead, Lori rode sweep, Althea was mechanic.
There were 22 of us on this ride!
The Midtown Farmers Market has grown. K Street between 19th and 21st is closed plus side streets.
I stayed with the bikes .. and was rewarded with an excellent chicken empanada.
On the way back, along the E Levee Rd near Sorento:
Whew, by the time I got home, I’d ridden 37 miles. Great ride.

I picked up the boys from SI this afternoon and was treated to another new song:
Carson had a game later in the afternoon.
All this was followed by a community meeting to oppose a warehouse development planned to be near the Westlake and Westshore neighborhoods.
