Terry’s mother was Louise and my mom’s oldest sister. When they used to get together, they made apple strudel. We used their recipe. Getting the dough just right is personal judgement based on experience. The dough must be gently stretched over a floured sheet until …

you can read the recipe when it’s slipped underneath.

Then it’s filled with buttered bread crumbs (to soak up any juices), apples, raisins, dried cranberries, walnuts, sugar, and cinnamon …

and carefully rolled up using the sheet.

We made enough strudel for the TGIF and big pieces for Thais’ family and Justin. It was fun to make one of our mothers’ recipes but I know I’ll never make apple strudel on my own. Too much guesswork. I like recipes with exact measurements and directions.
Cousin Terry
Because of snow in the northwest Terry didn’t actually arrive from Kelowna, British Columbia, until after midnight last Wednesday. We walked the 3 miles around the lake a couple of times and rode 17 miles to the end of Jack Rabbit Trail and back. That might have been a bit far for Terry’s first ride of the year.

Avery introduced Rusty the gecko to Terry. He also asked Terry, “Do you speak Canadian?” Answer, “I am speaking Canadian.”

On Friday, we made apple strudel and went to the TGIF at the Lodge.

Terry generously gave Sophia, Avery and Carson some Canadian money. Each of them has their own wallet:

After church on Sunday, we went out to Justin’s to visit:

We have a fun 5 days together, it went by fast. Thanks for coming, Terry!

Lunch with friends
Peter and Suzanne Price invited me for lunch and shopping in Winters. We ate at Putah Creek Cafe.

It’s not often when you find a croque madame on a menu. Definitely a must-order.

And the shopping was a quilt shop a few door away. And a yarn shop across the street! Suzanne also sews and loves fabric as much as I do.

What a fun outing!

Walking around the lake
This is my most recent attempt to capture bird activity when I walk around the lake.
Thursday @ Merrilyn’s
On Tuesday. Phyllis has been staying with me since January 12 – really just spending the night in the guest bedroom – she’s been visiting LOTS of friends and family. Today was reserved for Thursday at Merrilyn’s. Bacon cheese pull-aparts and Garlic buttered grilled shrimp:

Surprise: Jack Nolan came by, looking for Merrilyn’s husband Bob:

Dessert! Homemade raspberry sherbet and brownies:

A now-rare reunion of the three of us! We miss you, Phyl!

Later that evening, I moved my towel collection around which meant I had to climb to the third step of a ladder. Thanks Phyl for being there to call 911 if needed … lol ..
