Such good food for today’s lunch ride. Cheryl and I both had the pulled pork sandwich, hers with a side of mac and cheese, mine with (excellent) red beans and rice. Coleslaw on the bottom, a generous amount of pulled pork, and two onion rings in a brioche bun.
Plus a 25-mile ride to work it all off. Maybe not all of it … ?
Not much going on last week beyond riding my bike – 122 miles! I decided to make some carrots after I found all the fabric in my stash. A week ago, I sent Phyl in Montana this picture:
She asked me what they were for. I have no idea. Yet. By this evening, I was almost done. So close to being done that the next project is waiting in the background.

Wednesday February 3. Dani, Roni, Kathy. Small world note: Roni is a longtime cycling friend of Dani and Kathy. Roni is also one of my favorite “moms” – I taught both of her daughters at Westside Elementary, 6th grade.

We drove to E Nicolaus and rode to Wheatland and back. In front of Salle’s on Wheatland Rd. A great little stop with some fresh grown vegetables, dried fruits and nuts, jams and jellies – all grown and made on site. Barbara, Cheryl, big rooster, Jane, Lorge, me:
Saturday February 5. Six of us completed the Jibe-sponsored Olympic Gold Challenge. We rode the Redbud and Jackrabbit Trails and Fisherman’s Lake Parkway and took selfies with the newly-installed trail signage. After uploading to Jibe’s website, we win something. Cheryl, Kathy, Chris, Leo, Dani:

After applying in November and interviewing in early December, I found out last week that I was appointed to the Sacramento County Bicycle Advisory Committee. Tonight was my first meeting, by Zoom of course.
I’m going to enjoy knowing what’s going on bicycle-wise in the county and being able to have some input. One interesting fact regarding accomplishments by the Sac County in 2021 was 17 miles of bicycle lane and intersection improvements. One of those areas was our nearby Metro Air Parkway which we use at least once/week to cross I-5 when we ride around the airport.
Busy day. Avery played flag football at Jesuit HS:

Sophia played 3 volleyball games at @the Grounds in Roseville (part of a 3-day tournament). The Roebbelen Center has 24 indoor volleyball courts. Sophia’s team won their division on Monday.
Meanwhile Avery had a basketball game in the late afternoon. Three kids who love a variety of sports keep their parents hopping.

Saturday January 7. Leo was the ride leader, with me, Cheryl and Jane following, when we were passed by a very large and very fast group of cyclists. For a while, we rode with the “big boys.”
