Baseball game

There was some extra celebration because the Brewers were down by several runs but came back in bottom of the 9th inning to win by one run.

Carson got the game ball because in the previous game, he was “hit in the noggin.” By this game, he was ready to play pitcher again (standing beside the pitching machine) and his head only hurt when he raised his eyebrows.

Pedal Up Natomas – meeting 1

Two weeks ago, we were rained out so today was our first class. We met at Inderkum High School. Lennore, Brenda and Terri volunteered to help today. All of these pictures were taken by Lennore or Brenda (therefore you will see more of me than usual).

A few bike handling drills just to make sure everyone is street-ready.

We practiced doubling up, communicating and leaving limit line at the same time.

On-street instruction to prepare for individual left turns.

Great job everyone!

The Bicycle Nomad

Many people rode their bikes to REI for a presentation by Erick Cedeno.

Erick Cedeno has bicycle-toured from Vancouver BC to Tijuana MX, followed the Underground Railroad from New Orleans to Niagara Falls, and followed the trail of two bicycle expeditions by the USArmy in 1896 and 1897 by 20 black soldiers from Fort Missoula to St Louis. A very interesting presentation.

Training video

The City of Sacramento is adding five e-trikes to their library of things at the Colonial Heights branch.

Before checking out an e-trike, users must acknowledge that they’ve watched the training videos provided so they know how to operate, charge, lock, and properly use the bike on the street.

Pierson, Becky and I met a couple of city employees at Colonial Heights library and we went through a script of short video clips to demonstrate all the elements.

I demonstrated how to use the (very heavy) lock while being filmed.

Becky, friend and fellow LCI, she’s great to work with.

Graduation

Sophia graduated from 8th grade at St Ignatius this morning. Front row: Avery and Carson. Middle row: Thais and Lenin. Third row: Leah, Lauren, Jeff, Rita, Lino.

Sophia was one of 6 valedictorians, was chosen Female Athlete of the Year, and received some scholarship money for Christian Brothers High School.

Adult Learn to Ride

Our section of the bike tech classroom where the bikes for our program are stored.

Another successful Tuesday evening although it was quite hot. We had about 8 students and most of them are now bike riders. Our volunteers were especially helpful. They arrive 30 minutes before class begins to remove pedals from all the bikes and stay 30 minutes after to put them all back on. Thank you !! Paul, Leo, Kathy, Lennore.
