Adult Learn to Ride

The final Adult Learn to Ride class until next spring. We had 5 participants. I’m so proud of our team. Lennore encouraging and giving coaching tips for part 1 – balance and gliding. Pedals have been removed.

Kathy showing how to change gears. Inderkum High School cheerleaders practicing in the background.

Pedals are added one at a time.

Success! All five learned to ride within one hour, then practiced riding and turning for the final 30 minutes.

Back to routines

Feeling better this week, I was able to get back to some regular activities. Working for Love to Ride to promote Biketober for a couple of hours/day. SABA staff meeting on Tuesday morning. On Wednesday, ride leaders from Jibe’s Navigate Natomas got together to see where community bike rides could go from here.

Thursday evening, Sacramento County Bicycle Advisory Committee meeting.

Saturday, Jibe’s Electric Ride and Drive Expo at N Natomas Regional Park.

Monday to Monday

What did I do this past week? After the ride across the Golden Gate, I has a sore throat. But Monday it was a full-blown cold. Ugh. On the mend a week later. About 95% today .. and well enough to do an after-school coaching session for Project Ride Smart at NP3 (Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep) – a 5-minute walk from my house.

Unfortunately, the temps were in the high 90s and running around on the even hotter blacktop was not good.

Ride across the Golden Gate

Sunday of Labor Day weekend, the perfect day for this ride. Getting ready to board the ferry in Larkspur. Charlie, Leo, and Becky:

Brenda, Kristi, Lori:

20 minutes to the Ferry Building.

We rode through the wharf area, carefully avoiding many tourists/pedestrians, followed by a steep climb to this view. the Golden Gate in the distance:

Rest stop at Ft Point:

After a climb to the bridge, we rode across on the ocean side. Pedestrians were limited to the bay side. Downhill to lunch in Sausalito:

The view across the street from the restaurant:

Next stop, Sam’s Cafe in Tiburon.

We all took turns walking through the bar and packed restaurant to see another entrance:

Charlie’s turn:

A final climb out of Tiburon as we made our way back to Larkspur. 33 miles. Great ride. And requests to do it again soon.

Holy Court

Christian Brothers v St Francis at Cosumnes River College: girls’ volleyball. Crowd support and enthusiasm is about 1000% improved from when I was in high school. There were no girls’ sports in 1966. This is St Francis’ student cheering section, about 1/4 of the seating on their side, always standing, loud in-unison chants, funny exchanges with CB’s student cheering section at the other end.

Long day

At 3 am (11 pm in California), I was up and going to the airport following the suggested “arrive 3 hours before your flight” which turned out to be way too early. You go through US customs in Halifax – good idea! A short layover at New York La Guardia, then on to Atlanta where I had 5+ hour layover. What to do .. take a long time eating at a restaurant that no longer exists in the Sacramento area – TGI Friday’s. I always thought they had the best potato skins and they still do.

Elaine picked me up at 7-ish. Tired but couldn’t exactly fall asleep. So good to be home.
