First day for Project Ride Smart at Natomas Elementary School.

This job lasts until November 4, M-F. However I leave at noon on Tu (Auburn Bike Club) and Th (Sierra Bike Club). Hectic schedule for a few weeks!
My LCI partner is Doug Williams. Five classes of 5th graders, about 150 students. About 10 had never ridden a bike before and were taught in two after-school coaching sessions. Three lessons in the classroom, two days of blacktop drills, and 2 days of riding in the community if minimum skill level was achieved.

Topsoil.

Test-fire of sprinkler system at sunset – everything worked just fine, minor adjustments only.

Walnut gathering. These are still the “reaching up” days looking for walnuts that look like this. Reaching up is much better than bending over and picking nuts up from the ground.

I got this French pumpkin from Justin’s neighbor, Mitch. It’s about to be baked and turned into pumpkin fudge.

CELDT testing ends
Today was my last day to work for TRUSD doing CELDT testing. It’s always good when a repetitive job ends – I won’t have to read “Kenny’s Trip” for at least 10 months! I was part of a great team this year: Kathy Smith, Jeannie McClaren, and Adrienne.

One final story from Regency Park. I was testing a first grade boy. About halfway through the test I told him he really smelled good and asked if he was wearing cologne. He smiled and explained, “It’s my dad’s soap. (Patted his tummy.) I get my four-pack from doing push-ups. I get my six-pack from my dad’s soap.”

Walk to School Day at Regency Park
Our CELDT-testing team got a slow start today because of a big event sponsored by North Natomas Transportation Management Association (the same organization that hires me to teach Project Ride Smart).
Students checked in and breakfast was served.

There was a DJ, music and dancing.

Hundreds of students, parents, and staff participated.

These students participated in mass:

Oscar, cousin Jeffrey, cousin Leo, Sophia:

After mass, we went to the fabric store, a Halloween store where Sophia was not so sure about some of the animatronics,

and picked up lunch at her favorite restaurant, In N Out Burger. She wanted to eat her lunch at her mom’s work.
