Richmond to Berkeley

A new bike adventure in the Bay Area. On Monday, Brenda and I drove to Richmond and parked at the ferry terminal. BarbaraL met us along with our support vehicle for the day, her husband Kyle and son Skye.

Our first stop was nearby.

Part of the 500-mile Bay Trail.

This part of the trail goes behind Golden Gate Fields along the water.

A keyhole of painted rocks.

After crossing over I-80 near the Aquatic Park.

A stop at one of my favorite places on earth:

Lunch at ..

Great patio location under a heat lamp with our bikes parked nearby.

On the ride back to Richmond we spotted Under Guy:

Fun day. About 23 miles round trip. And some very nice lavender linen stowed in my saddlebag.

Baseball and ramen

On Tuesday, I picked up Carson from summer camp. After lunch, Avery and Carson decided to play baseball .. indoors. They’d invented their own version. Lots of rules that they understood without speaking. The game continued regardless of Charlie blocking their path.

On Thursday, Carson wanted ramen for lunch. He can now make it himself. I was impressed with his careful use of the stove and handling a hot pot of liquid. But I’m not sure about his special recipe.

The first step is to put the entire seasoning packet in the bowl. Then boil the ramen, drain completely, add to the bowl.

Finally, crack a raw egg on top

and stir.

He says it’s nice and creamy. I bet, but .. a raw egg? This recipe is not Grandma-approved.

Pt Reyes Peninsula

Monday: BarbaraL planned a ride which started in Inverness on the west shore of Tomales Bay. We parked in a small lot next to Saltwater Oyster Depot.

Dani, Kathy, BarbaraL and son Skye getting ready to roll:

This ride was planned to be about 34 miles round trip, to the Pt Reyes Lighthouse and back. However it also included 3000 feet of climbing. On an ebike, no problem, whew. On a regular bike, maybe a person has to walk.

So, Skye knew he wouldn’t be able to make it. BarbaraL stayed with him and returned to their vehicle while Dani, Kathy and I pressed on. The vistas were stunning.

We were close, but the climbing was steep and Kathy knew she wouldn’t make it. Dani rode back to get their truck to pick her up, just in case. I stayed with Kathy. She made it back to Inverness just fine, but she was exhausted.

Despite various setbacks, I really enjoyed the ride. 29 miles total. I love my ebike.
