Grand opening

SABA partnered with Community Shop Class and Sierra Service Project to create Community Bike Shop, Oak Park’s new non-profit, community-driven bike repair center, training facility, and retail store. Today was the grand opening.

A fun eclectic place to explore:

The bike shop area:

Classroom area:

Pizza from Luigi’s and a very good music duo:

A large outdoor area with a garden, huge barbecue, and pop-ups with misters.

Getting ready

I’ve been getting ready for weeks for a big (to me) event in Elk Grove. A bike rodeo for 55 Cub Scouts, ages 5-11. I came up with a plan, hired 3 LCIs and 4 SABA staff members, and purchased supplies ..

Now, fingers crossed, I’ve thought of everything and tomorrow will go well. According to the SABA website http://sacbike.org I am the Education Manager .. here goes a new part-time job.

Saturday: ride 2

The second Jibe ride of the day began in the early evening. There was a S Natomas Festival at a park about 7 miles away.

Bike valet by SABA – free secure bike parking – yay!

I stood in line at a food truck for 15 minutes with no movement forward so abandoned the idea of having dinner there .. walked around for at least 30 minutes, and decided to leave. Amazingly the food line had still not moved, good decision to ride back to our neighborhood and pick up some takeout on the way home. 13 additional miles for today, 37 miles total.

Saturday: ride 1

At the last minute, I was able to join the Jibe ride to Midtown Farmers Market. We met in front of the Jibe office.

This market is takes up several blocks. We didn’t have much time to walk around and see everything. Several interesting international food offerings.

Great ride. 23 miles.
