Yesterday morning, I went to the SABA staff meeting and learned a receptionist was needed today for a bike repair clinic at Mather Veteran’s Village.

Mather Veteran’s Village provides critically needed veteran housing with supportive services located on the former Mather Air Force base in Rancho Cordova. It provides 50 permanent supportive homes for formerly homeless and disabled veterans plus transitional housing for many more. SABA brought 15 rehabilitated bicycles to give away.

My station:

Many happy customers.

Time to celebrate all the bicycling achievements of the past year. The patio was ready to go, back gate open, bicycle parking in the garage.

Four of our group, all residents at Four Seasons Westshore, had advertising banners put up around N Natomas for a Jibe project called Wisdom Travels. At the end of a year, all the participants were given copies of their banners. If you would like to read their stories go to jibe.org/placemaking/wisdom-travels. It was COLD outside so we all stayed indoors.

On November 15, year 2 of Arlete’s Bicycle Interest Group ended. The group has grown in the past year from 73 to 112 members and the total miles ridden increased by about 2000 miles. Almost 2/3 have taken a bicycle education class from Jibe – either Better on Bikes or Pedal Up Natomas.

The top 15 riders accumulated 88% of the total miles:

Another quite successful year.

I made sure ALL the meat came off the thigh bone even if it didn’t make it to the serving platter.

Early morning, three of us on the couch each on our own devices but still chatting. He-who-shall-not-be-ignored, Charlie, wasn’t satisfied being 3 feet away, climbed up and sat across our feet … until Dad noticed. “Charlie! Get down!” Charlie listened immediately!

In the afternoon, I went to Justin’s to gather walnuts. I only harvested from 5 trees this year. My back now prefers that I rake, scoop and fill bags for just two hours. The cows came to watch what I was doing.

One small area looked like it was the daily gathering spot for meals. Lots of empty shells.

Lots of leaves and twigs were also scooped up which meant there was more sorting at home until there was a good layer of walnuts drying on the chicken wire rack on the patio.
