After breakfast, we rode over to the Oktoberfest event at the regional park, then we all went our separate to add as many miles as we wanted for the day. Lennore and I rode over to Rockmont Circle to see the great Halloween decorations. One of our favorites:
at Westlake Charter School, Monday-Friday mornings. Blacktop drills on Monday and Tuesday. After-school coaching on Wednesday afternoon – a rather large group.
Such joy when a student knows he/she can ride a bike. And a few grateful parents on the sidelines.
Thursday was the first street ride. I had the blue group.
Friday was “spooky day” in one classroom.

On Sunday morning, I bagged the walnuts that had been drying and managed to rake and gather from 10 trees before capacity was reached on the drying rack and my body begged me to stop.
BarbaraL and I drove to Courtland Saturday morning.
We parked at Nonie Wetzel Sacramento Public Library. The staff was very welcoming and even had snacks for us.
Our next stop was Locke.
Stuart Walthall, Chairman of the Locke Foundation, gave us a great introduction to the history of Locke and current efforts to preserve its history.
We met in the Boarding House. Upstairs, typical bedrooms through the decades.
Next stop, the Chinese school:

with structural issues. Fire sprinkler pipes surround many buildings in Locke. A fire would destroy the entire town.

We also visited, what one business owner called, “back of town” – the area behind the historical street, where local people live.

After our tour, we made our way through Walnut Grove to the Isleton Public Library.
Our tour came to an end.
Just how many miles did we ride? Zero. (Excuses) It was quite cold and windy to start and lots of weekend traffic on the narrow shoulderless levee roads. Even without riding, this adventure took about 5 hours. Huge thanks to BarbaraL, everything was so well organized and she brought Friends of the Library swag to every library. The tour of Locke was excellent.
We drove back to Walnut Grove and had lunch at Mel’s Mocha & Ice Cream. Such a fun day.

This morning we rode about 16 miles to Dave’s Pumpkin Farm in W Sacramento … just in time for MANY school buses of school children on field trips having their lunch. Every table was taken except for one far away from the crowd in the shade of a row of trees. Perfect. I watched the bikes while the others found and bought lunch. This was my viewpoint …
which included this funny vignette. A few very young children strayed too far away from their group. They’ve just been called back. Some listen right away. The boy still looking into the trees had be called more than once. LOL.
This was such a fun ride. 32-37 miles round-trip depending on one’s route home. And, I would definitely recommend the excellent warm apple cider donuts.

On Wednesday and Thursday mornings, I left at 7:30 am (just after sunrise!) and rode 4 miles to Westlake Charter School to help Deanna and Gina with the first day of blacktop drills.

After-school coaching on Wednesday. Only about 4 out of 15 need to come back for next week’s after-school coaching.
The only time we could have a special breakfast together was dinner on Monday night at Jim and Lucy’s. I made the special sauce (which took a couple of days) and tomato relish. Everyone else brought the condiments, tortillas, and Jimmy’s donuts. Archie and Sandy, Collie and Cindy, Jerry and Lupita, Jerry and Laura, Trish, Jim and Nicki.
There were two more tables to the side with a camp stove to cook on and a place with the food. After frying the corn and flour tortillas, Lucy and I made either scrambled eggs or over-easy. Jim was the bartender for the cooks – thank you!
Update on the kitchen remodel: it’s finished as of today!
