Brenda in New Orleans! Great idea: go for a bike ride on vacation.

Active Transportation Commission

Going to this meeting at City Hall was the only activity for me this week due to catching a mild cold. New City Hall:

Due to a scheduling conflict, tonight’s meeting was at Old City Hall:

There was no way I could miss this meeting because electing the next Chairperson was on the agenda. Who won? … me, for the next two years.

Sports-filled weekend

Sophia played in a volleyball tournament all weekend.

Sunday was the busiest, volleyball all day for Sophia, basketball and flag football for both boys.

In the first half, Carson intercepted 3 balls and returned them for touchdowns. In the second half, he was quarterback for a while.

Preparations

Last week was interesting and very different – helping to create some instructional videos for Jibe. Anya wrote a script to go along with the Adult Learn to Ride classes. We edited back and forth for a couple of days, then met in person for an out-loud reading, timing, more edits. On Saturday, I removed all the “extras” from my bike – stickers, bottle cages, cell phone holder, etc – and good cleaning is ahead.

This weekend, I will be reading the script over and over, out-loud, to be ready for filming next week. I don’t have to memorize it, I’ll be using a teleprompter – another first.

Marysville for lunch

A new favorite thing for me is the new Costco in Linda, about 35 miles north. I’m not a member, but this Costco is the closest one for a friend who lives 30 miles farther north. So, after Maria’s shopping trip we met in Marysville for lunch and a visit. Stassi’s 4th Ward Tavern is a sentimental favorite of ours.

I think Stassi’s might qualify as a “dive bar”, the food is really good.

**Canadian relatives: Every time I wear my Roughriders sweatshirt, I send all of you all a BIG hello.

Thursday with C&A

I picked up the boys from school today. Avery finished his homework in the car. Carson waited until we were home, then got online with his friend Hudson. I could hear from the other room, “Number 2 is …” and he read a sentence. “Number 3 is ‘Will wanted to go fishing with his grandfather’.”

I asked: What are you doing? Giving him all the answers? Big smile.

There’s a new pet in the household. A quest by Carson for over a year. This is Mango, a 2 1/2 foot-long yellow belly python:

Hmm, what’s going on in the back yard?

Your bike rides this week

Wednesday January 3. Rachel, Brenda, Laurie:

Thursday January 4. Dog walking while biking. Dani with Bella, Kathy with Rambo.

The above 1-mile ride was followed by a longer one (without dogs).

Thursday January 4. End of the trail in Egret Park discovered by BarbaraL and Skye:

Friday January 5. I rode with Roslyn, Cheryl, Kathy and Dani to far side of Seymour Park in the Pocket area. Three bridges over and one tunnel under busy roads in the linear park.

Kitchen adventures

For Christmas Eve, I tried a new bread recipe: buttermilk flaky dinner rolls. They were so good, I took them to lunch at Linda’s with Ade and Kathy.

My first attempt at English muffins. I need to work on this one a bit. Next time I will pat the dough into smaller circles. So delicious though. English muffins aren’t baked in the oven but rather “fried” on the stovetop.

And then, I got distracted by another all-consuming jigsaw puzzle:
