Soccer season begins

Carson wanted a little sunscreen on his tummy.Avery,”Hi Grandma. Can I borrow your gray iPad?” Soccer pictures will improve as soon as I can figure out the zoom on my camera – duh. I tried to go to Avery’s soccer game in the afternoon, but an accident closed down I-5 for about 7 hours and all the traffic clogged up the surface streets.

Carson entertains

I picked up Sophia and Avery from school so we could go fabric shopping for Sophia’s Halloween costume. After Thais got home with Carson, we had dinner together, and then visited for a while on the patio. Carson was quite entertaining. First he wanted to water some plants then ride the little roller coaster. He was delightful. As you look at this series of photos, also note the two immovable sibling statues on the glider.It’s Minecraft that has Sophia and Avery in a world of their own.Thais, “Sophia and Avery, Grandma’s leaving, say goodbye … Sophia! Avery! …” LOL.

Witness

From my left turn lane, I watched a car in the lane next to me, leave the red light and turn left AND then hit another car who had the right of way. Amazingly, I was the only witness to stay! Out of maybe 20 vehicles!

Back to School Night

This is an experiment. At William Land Elementaryin downtown Sacramento, there are many after-school clubs. This year, one parent thought it would be a good idea to have a bike club. Elle Steele and I responded to the inquiry, met together to create a broad outline, Elle created a letter to parents, I made a flyer with pictures,
we met with the principal, and here we were … at Back to School Night.No, that’s not Elle. She had a conflict tonight with one of her classes at Sac State. That’s Neil Thompson, another LCI that we work with.Neil lives car-free and has many bikes for different purposes. Tonight he needed his cargo bike to haul the smaller bike (with balloons attached), the pump, and other assorted goodies.William Land Elementary is a Mandarin immersion school. Some of the after-school choices include Chinese folk dance and Chinese harp.Other offerings, codingchess,engineering (Legos),and drums.Bonus: street tacos (not a club) – they were REALLY good! Pollo, carne asada, and al pastor.Some of these clubs cost money, ours does. Sign-ups happen through September 15. We need at least 10 kids in grades 4-6 to sign up to make the club minimally viable. There’s a pool of about 220 students. 15 would be ideal, then Elle and I could both be at the weekly one-hour meetings most of the time. We’ll see, stay tuned.

Nicolaus Labor Day Parade

Happy Anniversary

Number 13 (tomorrow) for Thais and Lenin who went out to dinner tonight! Sophia and Avery are very patient with their little brother. No problem when Carson repeatedly opened and closed Sophia’s Barbie treasure box.Or when he wanted to see what Avery was doing on the iPad.One hand to play the game and one arm for his brother.

Sophia, Avery & Carson

Today I picked up Sophia and Avery from school. Everyone has been moved into portables so the original school buildings can be torn down and rebuilt.This is an optical illusion: Avery’s legs are not that long.Shortly after getting home, Sophia told me she had a tooth that was barely loose. Then she went to work on it. About an hour later, ta-da!Eating yogurt is much less messy for Carson now that he started using a spoon instead of his hands.This is how Avery eats Double Stuf Oreos. Emphasis on the Double Stuf!
