Learn 2 Ride

Class #1. I have been working on starting a learn to ride a bike program for SABA for the past two months or so. A couple of stumbling blocks had to be dealt with, like .. location. Thank you REI on Expo Parkway for hosting us this morning. Today’s League Cycling Instructors, BarbaraL and Kathy:

Within about an hour and a half, we had bike riding success!

My SABA job title is now Program Manager – Learn 2 Ride. Preview: by next week, I will be Program Manager – Bike Education, with four projects to manage. A new chapter begins .. don’t worry, I am still very part-time employed.

Jibe ride to Old Sac

A surprise turnout the day after the Fourth of July – 25 people met at Elderberry Park for a ride to Steamers in Old Sac.

My ride turned out to be a bit longer than expected. I showed a mother and her two kids how to get back to their home in Northlake via Metro Air Parkway over I-5 thereby avoiding the less-safe Elkhorn Blvd over 99/70. 32 miles today!

Hula on Wednesdays

Thank you Lisa for adding a new beginner’s class on Wednesday evenings.

The advanced group still meets on Saturday mornings and recently performed at the Four Seasons Westshore talent show. I have too many bike-related events or rides on Saturday mornings so I’m excited for the Wednesday class.

Around Lake Tahoe – Tuesday

We got an earlier start to avoid traffic on the road, especially on the climb to Emerald Bay early in the ride. 8 am:

There was a nice trail right to the beginning of the climb. Let me qualify “nice”. There was no traffic to worry about and the surroundings were beautiful but the actual trail was so bumpy.

Elaine met us at one of the wide pull-outs.

Emerald Bay:

The Fish and Game Department was at the Meeks Bay Campground ready to release containers of small trout into the lake. The blow-up fish attracted an audience:

Just a mile away, at Meeks Bay Resort, Brenda went for a cold plunge in the lake, Lori got her feet wet, the rest of us didn’t even want sand in our shoes.

The rest of the ride would be trail.

Brenda calls this photo stop The Rock of Gibraltar:

Back to Tahoe City. We did it. 36 miles today. 78 miles around the lake in two days.
