Ride with City Staff

On Wednesday evening. About thirty people met in front of City Hall.

Jennifer Donlon Wyant and Jeff Jelsma:

Stop #1 to view new bicycle infrastructure:

Stop #2 on Broadway:

The ride ended at Urban Roots and where the after-party began. Too crowded and noisy for me.

Ride Across the Golden Gate

Sheila and I left from my house before 8a and had a fast smooth drive to the Larkspur Ferry Terminal. Seven of us planned to meet here to take the 10a ferry. Unfortunately, BarbaraL went to the Tiburon ferry – oops. And Sheila realized she left her ebike battery in her car which was parked at my house – OOPS – but she decided to persevere. She is a strong rider.

Paul, Galib, Brenda, Aidan, Sheila:

The Bay Bridge is in the background.

We rode a few miles in a very strong wind (20-30 mph from the west) and Sheila realized she would not be able to complete the ride without battery assist. She returned to the ferry terminal and made her way back to Larkspur where she had to wait several hours for us to finish the ride.

At Fort Point.

The sidewind going across the bridge was fierce. There was some careful cycling around wobbly tourists on rented bikes while keeping an eye on oncoming super-fast fitness riders. Fun. We all made it to the other side.

BarbaraL met up with us at lunch in Sausalito.

Tiburon – which was way more crowded than this picture indicates.

Our final regrouping stop is always at a fire station at a 3-way intersection about 4 miles from the end of the ride. While we waited for everyone to arrive: wildlife across the street!

Great ride, about 33 miles. It was Paul and Galib’s first time. Aidan hadn’t done the ride in years. Sheila will never forget her battery again, lesson learned.

Baseball and ..

The final game of the season on Friday.

Through the season, Carson became a pretty good pitcher. One day after school, he told me about his “immaculate inning.”

Saturday afternoon, I dropped everyone off at the airport. They’re on their way to Jeffrey’s graduation from college in San Diego.

B St Theatre

Terri and I went to Cafe Bernardo for brunch before the play. The chilaquiles were great!

Nosotros la Gente by Jerry Montoya. Terri and I both thought this was the best play we’ve seen so far at B St.

Lyon

We boarded a hop-on-hop-off bus for a tour of the city.

Locals call this building “the toaster.”

The green building is called “the pencil sharpener.”

An up-close view of the Basilique Notre Dame Fournaviere, often referred to as “the wedding cake” or “upside down elephant.”

Nearby a tower to rival the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Best imagined far away, the closer you got, the less it became a rival.

Views of the city:

Also nearby, a Roman amphitheater:

Later in the afternoon, we shared a charcuterie board:
