Ride to Del Rio Trail

This morning the City of Sacramento encouraged people to walk, ride and roll along the Del Rio Trail to see the recent public art installations and visit with some of the artists. Twelve of us met at the Gateway Connector Bridge over I-80.

There are 18 total art installations along the Del Rio Trail. There are 5 identical “granaries” placed in various locations along the trail.

CK McClatchy High School

I was invited to attend a meeting on Friday morning at

There were huge concerns regarding the safety of students who walk and bicycle to school because of so many cars clogging Freeport Blvd at the start and end of the school day. SacPD, Regional Transit, the school principal, City of Sacramento staff, Deb Banks/SABA, Councilmember Rick Jennings + two staff members, Jeannie Ward-Waller, and me-Chair, ATC. We explored solutions and next steps. But the best part ..

Before the meeting started as people were still arriving and we were informally introducing ourselves to each other, one the the City staff said “I watch you once a month.” Huh? Dave, the Chief Traffic Engineer watches the monthly videotaped ATC meetings. Then he added, “.. and I know Justin.” Really? Justin works for the City, he and Dave know each other and communicate on various projects. Then, the lady on my left says, “I know Justin too.” Ursula from parking enforcement also works with Justin at times. LOL – small world.

Party at Drake’s

Jibe hosted an end-of-season get-together for everyone in the bike programs at Drake’s the Barn in W Sacramento. This included all the Bike Docs and LCIs who teach Project Ride Smart, the bike tech class at Inderkum HS, and various other bike education programs in N Natomas.

Deb presented Bill Leddy with his Good Wheel award.

Bike shopping

Friday. This was fun. Amal was thinking about buying an e-bike. We went to a store I’d never been to before to look around and take a test ride. ATV Wholesale has a big selection with several brands. All the e-bikes are Class 2 which means they all have a throttle.

Tuesday. Congratulations on your new e-bike, Amal. Installing a hitch and purchasing the correct bike rack is another investment, so I helped transport the bike home.

What the …

Constitution Means to Me was the title of this afternoon’s play at the Sofia/B Street Theatre. Terri, Steve and I started with brunch at Paragary’s.

One of the best plays I’ve seen at the Sofia/B St.

Jibe bike ride

Twenty people showed up for today’s ride. Steven was the ride leader, Ki was sweep, Jorge was the mechanic. We met in front of Kohl’s, hoping the dark clouds to the west were not filled with rain.

Great ride, 20 miles to the California Aerospace Museum in McClellan and back. McClellan, now its own town, used to be an Air Force base.

On the way back, we all enjoyed hot fresh tamales at a roadside stop.

Almost back to our starting point.
