Cindy, Terri and I went to B St Theater on Easter Sunday afternoon
to see Cosmo St James is Dead and Someone in This Room Killed Him. The play was quite good, funny, and there was audience participation. The set design was excellent.
After the play, Terri and I went to Ink – a former tattoo parlor, now a popular restaurant.
Justin, Jennifer and I had the perfect breakfast: waffles, bacon and mimosas in the morning. Meanwhile in another part of the city, 2 of 3 boys wake up to an Easter basket.
And in Las Vegas, #4 in the red jersey, the “libero”, was diving and saving points.
Cheryl and I rode to Bryte Park on Sunday morning. We were so happy to find bike valet parking and Yoshi was happy to park the first two bikes of the day.
Diana and Rob from SABA:
Alice and Tim from SABA promoting May is Bike Month.
We had a great lunch from Chando’s food truck and rode home. A great day for a bike ride.
Friday and somewhat rainy. And cold if you forgot to wear a jacket. I brought an extra rain jacket and loaned it out a couple of times.
Our intrepid team for the day: Diana, a parent volunteer who stayed for the entire day (!), Laurie, Charlie.
In front of the classroom: Pierson.
Uh-oh, a mishap at the skate park had an unfortunate result for LCI Doug – a broken ankle.
Doug’s explanation about the picture: “Weel … Scots are an optimistic people always looking for the silver lining. So here you go! I no longer need to put on kilt hose and garters just to carry my Sgian Dubh. I ken that will come in handy if I’m attacked by a wild haggis!”
Thursday evening, I went to Councilmember Lisa Kaplan’s Community Conversations as District 1’s Active Transportation Commissioner. All but one of the Commissioners attended.
We each had a table and supplies to gather feedback. I did a bit of advertising for May is Bike Month.
People kept meandering in for the next 30 minutes until the room was quite full.
Speaking is Councilmember Lisa Kaplan. To her right, the Chief of Police and someone from the Department of Finance to explain how the City is dealing with a budget deficit.
Hurray for feedback. Comments asked for improved bus service, safety improvements for pedestrians and cyclists and a bicycle-pedestrian bridge over I-5 connecting the west side of N Natomas to the east side between Del Paso Rd and Arena Blvd. Locally we call it the Snowy Egret Bridge. Now that the idea has been officially floated by CLK (who has already talked about this project with our US Congressman Ami Bera), we are now a mere 10-24 years away from completion. If everything moves along at a reasonable pace, I will get to ride over Snowy Egret bike/ped bridge some time between ages 85 and 99.
= Sophia, Avery, Carson on my calendar. Early dismissal today. I picked up Carson at St Ignatius while Avery got a ride to track & field practice. Later, I dropped off Sophia – on spring break – at a friend’s house, then picked up Avery after practice. Different school schedules and busy kids.
at H Allen Hight Elementary, about 3 miles from my house, a 20-minute ride. Arrival time = 7:20. A tad early for this retired person. I was there for the last three days, the street rides, when four LCIs are needed.
Five 5th grade classes – on the second floor of the building, a bit of stair-climbing ahead.
Always ABCQuick Check before going for a ride. Thank you Diana, who volunteered to ride sweep for my Yellow group.
Brenda, BarbaraL and I rode in early Sunday morning to meet at Midtown Trek for SABA’s social ride.
Pierson was the ride leader:
Sonya’s Scout troop did an ABCQuick Check presentation – they did a great job:
A stop at the Bicycle Kitchen – one of the most generous and worthwhile bicycle-related businesses in Sacramento. Totally supported by volunteers, a great source for diy repairs, inexpensive used parts, and used bicycles.
Great ride along the ARBT to Watt Avenue where we crossed the American River.
There is another excellent paved trail on the other side going back toward Sac State.
The route continued along Elvas Ave, through McKinley Village to Sutter’s Landing Park. When we got to C & 20th Streets, the three of us peeled off, took the Sacramento Northern Bike Trail to the ARBT to Discovery Park and home. Whew – about 40 miles today.
For this meeting, two SABA mechanics came out to Two Rivers Elementary to service the bikes of the kids in the group and their families. Because it was raining we actually met in a nearby garage. For the first time, the work stand on my bike rack was used – so much easier to work on elevated bikes.
Huge thanks to mechanics Ken (above) and Dennis (below):
