Ride with Gina

Our second annual ride with Gina who lives in Folsom.

Jane, BarbaraL, Brenda, Gina, Cheryl, Agueda, Rachel:

Nimbus Fish Hatchery (on the left) on the American River:

Upriver, Nimbus Dam and Lake Natoma:

Along the trail with the lake on the right,

high bluffs on the left and a stop to view an eagle’s nest.

Folsom Power House:

After the ride, we had lunch at Karen’s Bakery. Thank you Gina for being a great tour guide and ride leader!

Hanging by a thread

After dropping off Avery at dodgeball camp and a little break, I picked up Carson at basketball camp.

One of his friends accidentally bumped him in the mouth but not quite enough ..

The “three amigos” as one parent calls them. Zane, Hudson and Carson, always in motion, impatient for the doors to be unlocked.

After games of pick up sticks, tiddly winks, and Chutes and Ladders, it was time for some livingroom baseball. This game was different. Thais came home but had an online meeting. I was sitting on the couch, Thais’ desk is behind me.

They only whispered, kept silent counts, and had no disputes. The only sound was the thwack of the ball on the pillow or bat.

Pride ride

We wanted to see what was going on, but didn’t want to deal with the crowds at the parade, so we rode to Southside Park, the staging area. Walkers were in the park, vehicles were lined up in the street.

Chickens on roller skates:

Dykes on Bikes (that’s the real name of their group) arriving. There would be hundreds in the parade.

Across the Golden Gate

The last time I did this ride was Memorial Day weekend 2022 with the Heritage Park bike group and Becky (now retired from Jibe) and Charlie (Becky’s husband and fellow LCI). The crowds of people along the waterfront, on the bridge, in the small cute towns made the ride challenging. This time, we tried doing the ride on a weekday. The trade-off was fewer people to dodge, but 5.5 hours of driving with commuters to and from the Larkspur Ferry Terminal. On a weekend, the roundtrip drive can be half that.

Besides all that, today’s ride was fantastic. Gina came to my house from Folsom and I drove.

Elaine and Terri in the foreground. Because e-bikes are so heavy and can’t be lifted into a vertical position, they are lined up tightly in a wide corner in the stern.

Leaving the wharf area:

The view after the first climb:

At Fort Point, just before crossing the Golden Gate:

Another difference from a weekend ride: we had to ride on the east side of the bridge with pedestrians. We also saw a police officer give two cyclists speeding tickets for riding faster that 15 mph.

Descending into Sausalito where we had lunch at Venice Gourmet Delicatessen.

On the way to Tiburon, an art installation.

What a fun group to ride with. Gina, Elaine, Charlie, Cindy, Cheryl, Brenda, Terri.

Back to our starting at Larkspur Ferry Terminal. 32 miles! I’m already looking forward to doing this again. On a weekend.
