This is my team. I teach Project Ride Smart, sponsored by NNTMA (North Natomas Transportation Management District), twice each year. I was invited to join their team to ride this year. I’ve never done anything like this before. Good decision, great fun. L-R. Front row: Sherrie, Mike, Bruce. Middle row: Team Captain Julie, John, Mellissa. Back row: MJ, Abbey, Arlete, Matt, Shawn.

Emigrant Trails Bike Trek: Friday morning
6:30 am: up and ready to ride as soon as the required safety meeting is over. Since I know I’m a slower-than-average rider, I wanted to get an early start.
We’re in wine country, grapes grow everywhere!

Hennessy Lake: the rest stop was at the boat launch.

It was a bit of a climb to get to the rest stop, the turn around point for the 31-mile Middle A route. There were 4 routes this morning, from 10-50 miles.

Dutch Henry was a partner-winery for this year’s Trek.
Wine tasting (at 10 am? yes, it’s possible) and all purchases were picked up by the SAG vehicle and brought back to camp.

Emigrant Trails Bike Trek: Thursday
A new adventure for me: a three-day cycling event that raises funds to support clean air, healthy lungs and a tobacco-free tomorrow organized by Breathe CA.

I came to Calistoga, the Napa County Fairgrounds, this afternoon because the first ride begins tomorrow at about 7 am. I am part of the Natomas Flyers group of 14. Find the tiniest tent – that’s mine.

CELDT testing begins
Auburn Elementary Bike Club
Another great bike club meeting. Students reviewed proper helmet fit, practiced single-file group riding leaving a “ghost bicycle” in between real bicycles, practiced bicycle control skills by riding in a figure 8, and began learning how to scan over their left shoulder and still ride a straight line.

Harvests begin
The first yellow-green of the rice fields are evident.
And then cousin Glenn sent this picture of the wheat harvest on the family farm in Markinch Saskatchewan Canada, three combines in one field.

Glenn with grandson Romen who thought it was way too noisy.

Thank you Glenn for sending me your pictures and letting me share them on the blog!
Thursday @ Merrilyn’s
Except that it was Wednesday. When a TRUSD mandatory meeting (in order to do CELDT testing for English learners in Kindergarten and 1st grade) for Thursday was made known at the last minute, thankfully Merrilyn and Phyl were able to switch our get-together to today.
Dear friends in Foley AL, Tom and Paula, should recognize the following beverage, Frozen Good. And Phyl chose a matching outfit!

Yum!

The food is always great: Shrimp Remoulade w crackers and pumpernickel and Salmon Mousse in pastry cups.

The best part, as always, was good conversation with friends.
